Parrot Linux 7.4 Release Notes

Parrot Linux 7.4 was released on 3 October 2026 and is the current version. It rebuilds AnonSurf, redesigns Rocket and adds optimized ISOs for recent processors.

AnonSurf 6.0

AnonSurf, the tool that routes the whole system through Tor, now runs on a systemd-based architecture. It gains automatic session recovery, more reliable DNS, firewall and IPv6 handling, and a CLI with IP status checks and JSON output. Read the AnonSurf guide.

Rocket 2.0 and Parrot Discovery

  • Rocket 2.0 has a redesigned PySide6 interface and now prefers rootless Podman as the container runtime, falling back to Docker.
  • Parrot Discovery is a first-run setup app that offers browsers, editors, chat clients, container tooling and privacy utilities.

Kernel, hardware and images

  • Linux 7.1 kernel.
  • Optimized ISOs for newer CPUs using the amd64v3 and arm64v8.2 architecture levels; new arm64 ISO images.
  • Beta support for the Orange Pi 5 Ultra; Raspberry Pi images receive dependency and SSH-key fixes. See Raspberry Pi images.
  • KDE tweaks, including Baloo file indexing disabled by default.

How to upgrade to Parrot Linux 7.4

sudo parrot-upgrade

Upgrade checklist

  1. Back up /home and any tool configs you customised (Burp projects, Metasploit database, wordlists).
  2. Make sure you have at least 5 GB free on /; kernel and tool updates are large.
  3. Run the upgrade on a wired connection or stable Wi-Fi; if it is interrupted, re-run sudo apt --fix-broken install then sudo parrot-upgrade again.
  4. Reboot. Confirm the kernel with uname -r and the release with cat /etc/os-release.
  5. If a tool misbehaves after the upgrade, check troubleshooting or run it through Rocket in a container.

Fresh install instead?

Download the current ISO from the download page, verify the hash (guide), write it to USB (guide) and follow the installation guide. Minimums are in system requirements.
