Parrot Linux Home Edition is Parrot without the penetration-testing toolset. It uses the same Debian 13 base, the same repositories and the same privacy tools as the Security Edition, packaged as a daily-driver system for work, study and development.
What you get
- Privacy tools: AnonSurf for system-wide Tor routing, Tor Browser, a hardened Firefox ESR, and Firejail and AppArmor sandboxing.
- Everyday applications: recent release notes list LibreOffice, GIMP, VLC, qBittorrent and VS Code among the preinstalled programs.
- Parrot Discovery, a first-run assistant added in 7.4, to install browsers, editors, chat clients, container tooling and privacy utilities.
- No pentesting suite, which keeps the download and the installed system smaller than the Security Edition.
Home or Security Edition?
If you want Parrot as your only operating system, Home Edition avoids installing hundreds of tools you may never open. Every Security Edition tool can still be added with apt install, because both editions share the same repositories. Kali has no equivalent edition; see Parrot OS vs Kali.
System requirements
A 64-bit dual-core CPU and 2 GB of RAM as a minimum, with 4 GB recommended for the KDE Plasma desktop. Older machines are better served by the MATE or LXQt spin. See system requirements.
