Parrot Linux Hack The Box Edition is the Parrot Security Edition customised for Hack The Box. Hack The Box and Parrot announced a partnership in 2020, and HTB’s browser-based Pwnbox is built on Parrot, so what you practise locally matches what you get in the browser.
How it differs from Security Edition
The toolset is the Security Edition toolset. The difference is the Hack The Box theming and defaults aimed at lab work. If you do not use HTB, the plain Security Edition gives you the same tools.
Using it for labs
- Most players run it as a virtual machine next to their main operating system; see Parrot on VirtualBox.
- Lab access uses an OpenVPN profile downloaded from your HTB account.
- Keep the system current with
sudo parrot-upgradebefore a session; tools such as netexec and BloodHound change quickly.
System requirements
The same as Security Edition: a 64-bit dual-core CPU, 4 GB of RAM recommended and 40 GB of disk. See system requirements.
