Parrot is a free and open source project, and much of its work is done in the open by volunteers. parrotlinux.org is not part of the project, but if you want to help the distribution itself, these are the usual ways in.
Ways to contribute upstream
- Test new releases. Run the latest images on your hardware or in a virtual machine and report regressions before they reach everyone else.
- Report bugs well. A reproducible report with version, hardware and full error output saves maintainers hours. See how to ask a good question.
- Package and maintain tools. Parrot is Debian-based, so the work is Debian packaging. The guides on rebuilding a package from source and building with sbuild show the basics.
- Improve documentation and translations. Clear instructions help more users than almost any other contribution.
- Host a mirror. Extra mirrors make downloads and updates faster in your region; see how to set up a mirror.
- Help other users in the official community channels.
Where the work happens
Source code, packaging repositories and the issue tracker live on the project’s public Git hosting. Check the official Parrot website for the current contribution guidelines before you open a merge request.
Supporting the project financially
Donations to Parrot are handled by the project itself through its official website. This site does not accept donations for the project.
