Parrot Linux 6.4 Release Notes

Released on 7 July 2025, Parrot Linux 6.4 is the final 6.x feature release before the Debian 13 rebase. It brings a long-term-support kernel and a sizeable batch of red-team tooling.

Kernel

Linux 6.12 LTS, which stays supported for years and gives the 6.x branch a stable base while 7.0 is developed.

New and updated tools

  • Metasploit 6.4.71
  • Sliver C2 framework (new)
  • Empire 6.1.2 and Starkiller 3.0
  • Caido 0.48.1, airgeddon 11.50, netexec 1.4, enum4linux-ng 1.3.4, goshs 1.0.5, ConvoC2
  • Firefox ESR 140 as a custom build with privacy hardening; the new parrot-firefox-profiles package restores the hardened configuration automatically.

Core fixes

  • parrot-menu gained quick launchers for the new tools.
  • parrot-core fixed $HOME path completion and tightened permissions on /root.

How to upgrade to Parrot Linux 6.4

sudo parrot-upgrade

What comes next

The team announced that Parrot 7.0 would be rebased on Debian 13 “Trixie”, add RISC-V support and ship several desktop flavours. See the 7.0 release notes.

Upgrade checklist

  1. Back up /home and any tool configs you customised (Burp projects, Metasploit database, wordlists).
  2. Make sure you have at least 5 GB free on /; kernel and tool updates are large.
  3. Run the upgrade on a wired connection or stable Wi-Fi; if it is interrupted, re-run sudo apt --fix-broken install then sudo parrot-upgrade again.
  4. Reboot. Confirm the kernel with uname -r and the release with cat /etc/os-release.
  5. If a tool misbehaves after the upgrade, check troubleshooting or run it through Rocket in a container.

Fresh install instead?
