Parrot Linux development documentation, for people who build or modify software for the system. Parrot is based on Debian, so it uses the Debian packaging tools: sources are fetched with APT, built into .deb packages and tested in clean chroots.
The guides below assume you are comfortable with the command line and with APT; if not, read software management first.
Building packages
- Rebuild Package from Source: Fetch a package source with apt, change it and rebuild the .deb.
- Building deb packages with sbuild: Set up sbuild chroots and build packages for several architectures.
Want to help the Parrot project itself? The contribute page explains where the upstream project accepts code, packaging, documentation and testing. For kernel work see recompiling the kernel.
